The renovation of the existing media center at the Fayetteville-Manlius High School was part of a series of ongoing renovation and addition work in the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District. The existing media center was generally lacking in space, proper lighting, and overall functionality. The district recognized these challenges and prioritized its renovation, partnering with King + King to help guide the process from design through construction. 

The renovation added square footage to the existing media center by incorporating adjacent, underutilized spaces to create a state of the art 8,870 square foot media center. The new media center is complete with café, bathrooms, open lounge, classrooms, maker space, office spaces, work rooms, study and book stack areas as well as dedicated computer work stations. The functions vary wildly in a media center like this, flexibility was non-negotiable as the design team employed strategies like movable glass walls to define space or open to one large space at will.

The success of this project can be measured in many ways but it’s the overwhelming popularity of the school’s students that speaks for itself. King + King is proud to have worked with the district and many others to create a space for the student community that not only delivered on the established project goals but exceeded expectations.
