The first stop for students in the East Syracuse Minoa Central School District, Park Hill School is dedicated entirely to the district’s Universal Pre-K program. King + King Architects was asked to transform the 16,000 square foot 1960’s-era wing into a modern, innovative, and safe 21st century learning environment. Because the building serves a very specific age group, the design team focused on creating fun and engaging spaces conducive to the needs of a 2, 3, and 4-year-old population.

Existing classrooms were reconfigured to include areas for Dramatic Play, Sensory Exploration, and Art and STEM learning, plus introduced new Break Out and Small Group instruction spaces. Colors were carefully coordinated both inside and out through wall paint, flooring, furniture, and more for a cohesive look, but to also help define different programmatic functions within spaces and assist young students in wayfinding.

First impressions are everything, and the reimagined Park Hill School now matches the district’s mission of offering the best early education experience for their littles learners each day.
