Creating a Safer and More Supportive Behavioral Health Environment

This project renovates and expands a local hospital’s existing Behavioral Health Unit within the Emergency Department to address growing behavioral health needs within the community. The project increases the unit from 5 to 12 patient rooms while creating an environment designed around safety, visibility, and patient care.

Each room incorporates ligature-resistant design elements, while staff and security areas were strategically positioned to maintain visual connection to primary patient areas and entry points throughout the unit.

Visioning and Design Strategy

The design team worked closely with hospital staff and end users to develop a layout that supports both patient wellbeing and operational efficiency. Durable materials, controlled visibility, and carefully integrated security measures contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

The renovated Behavioral Health Unit expands access to care while creating a safer, more supportive environment for both patients and healthcare staff.

Let’s create.

We believe architecture should be accessible, sustainable, and meaningful, with an emphasis on design that makes a positive and lasting impact.
